Designing the Foundation – 5,600 Sq. Ft. Home with Detached Barn

Overview

This project brought together two distinct spaces — a 5,600 sq. ft., six bedroom primary residence, and a 1,500 sq. ft., four bedroom detached pole barn — offering a split opportunity between advisory support and full-scale implementation. While overseeing infrastructure decisions at the main house, the pole barn allowed for hands-on execution. Together, they played a key role in the formation of UpLync Networks and the vision to deliver clean, scalable, and resilient low-voltage systems.

Main Residence – Advisory Role

Provided guidance during the construction phase of the primary home, helping shape key decisions around AV and network readiness.

Contributions Included:

  • Encouraging a forward-thinking structured cabling layout, with an emphasis on sufficient Ethernet drops to reduce Wi-Fi saturation and support wired performance

  • Deploying networking hardware to ensure robust coverage

  • Overseeing TV selection and installation logistics

  • Specifying and installing IP-controllable devices in areas with multiple TVs in close proximity to avoid IR interference and streamline control

Detached Pole Barn – Full Installation

Located across a public road, the detached barn serves as an extension of the living space, complete with four bedrooms, a full bath, a bar, laundry, and recreational areas. UpLync Networks led all low-voltage design and installation efforts for this structure.

Scope of Work:

  • Deployed a wireless bridge to establish one uniform network and stable connectivity between buildings

  • Planned and prepared for buried optical fiber to ensure long-term performance and clean aesthetics (installation scheduled for spring/summer)

  • Installed structured cabling throughout for AV, networking, and future smart systems

  • Deployed a complete network stack to support entertainment, utilities, and guest accommodations

Key Features & Enhancements

  • Reliable Cross-Property Connectivity: Stable wireless bridge currently in place, with a fiber backbone planned for enhanced speed and durability

  • Future-Proofed Wiring: Structured cabling supports AV distribution, automation, and system expansion

  • Hands-On Execution: Full deployment in the pole barn showcases UpLync Networks’ in-house capability from planning to implementation

  • Entertainment-Focused Infrastructure: Design centered around how the space is lived in — from recreational areas to hospitality-ready amenities

In Progress

Next Steps & Recommendations

  • System Unification: Evaluate opportunities to centralize AV, video distribution, and surveillance into a single control platform

  • Control System Scaling: Upgrade the existing processor to better support multiple zones and growing smart integrations

  • Surveillance Enhancement: Assess current NVR for compatibility with unified viewing and system-wide access

  • Smart Additions: Expand functionality with intelligent lighting, multi-zone audio, and programmable automation scenes

  • Optical Fiber Installation: Complete the planned buried fiber optic link to replace the temporary wireless bridge — ensuring high performance, long-term reliability, and a clean aesthetic

Retrofitting Resilience – 6,000 Sq. Ft. Whole-Home AV Overhaul

Overview

This 6,000 sq. ft., five bedroom residence required a comprehensive upgrade to its networking systems that hindered the audiovisual setup. The home's robust construction, featuring concrete, cement, wood, aluminum framework, and a clay roof, presented unique challenges for connectivity and integration. Additionally, the property includes a detached cabana and a powered entry gate, necessitating a cohesive and extensive system overhaul.

Scope of Work

  • Network Overhaul: Upgraded the home's internet infrastructure to ensure robust and reliable connectivity throughout the property, addressing challenges posed by the building materials.

  • Whole-Home Audio System: Integrated existing speakers, including those in the detached cabana, with new amplifiers and control systems to deliver seamless audio experiences across all zones.

  • Surround Sound Setup: Revamped a surround sound system in the main living area, enhancing the home entertainment experience and seamless integration with multi-room audio outputs.

  • Surveillance Integration: Integrated existing surveillance cameras and security system for the homeowner to choose their own monitoring provider.

Key Features & Enhancements

  • Enhanced Connectivity: Overcame structural challenges by strategically relocating access points and hardwiring key endpoint devices—reducing wireless saturation and delivering reliable performance throughout the main home and detached cabana.

  • Multi-Zone Audio Integration: Unified existing speaker systems across the property, including the detached cabana, through new amplifiers and control components for a seamless whole-home audio experience.

  • Surround Sound Setup: Implemented and calibrated a dedicated surround sound system in the main living area for immersive entertainment.

  • Unified Control System: Brought together audio, video, and surveillance components into a centralized interface, giving the homeowner intuitive access and streamlined control across devices and zones.

Completed / Pending new work

Gate Surveillance & Access Integration: Plans are underway to install a TAA-compliant U.S.-manufactured surveillance camera at the powered entry gate, providing a reliable security solution for monitoring visitors and mitigating liability concerns. The system will be integrated into the home's centralized control platform. Additionally, the existing NVR will be replaced with a cross-compatible recorder that supports both the newly added and existing surveillance cameras, ensuring seamless monitoring and recording across all zones.

Additional Projects

  • Relocated and remounted security panels for improved accessibility and a cleaner aesthetic

  • Mounted TVs and wall displays with concealed wiring and proper power placement
